Publications: Seven of our members have published papers in the IATC magazine, The Torch: Charles G. Beaudette (1993), J. Howard Hannemann (1998), William R. Dill (1998), Donald J. Clark (1999), R.S. Chamberlin (2000), Richard Hobby (2005), and David C. Smith (2010).

Anniversaries

The 25th anniversary of our club was celebrated on September 30, 1954. William Linnell, a charter member and past president of International Torch. Introduced the special speaker, Norris Paxton, who presented a paper entitled What Makes Us Tick. The club had 35 members, with seven charter members listed on the roster. There was no formal 50th anniversary celebration in 1978-79. Wm. M. Altenburg, Sr. was club president. Membership was 45. Our 70th anniversary meeting was held May7, 2000. Wendy M. Bush was club president. IATC President Ruth E. Giller, of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Kate Fleisher, Director, IATC Region 1, of Horseheads, N.Y. were special guests of honor. Our 75th anniversary meeting was held October 6, 2004. Donald Gove was club president. IATC President Wayne Davis and Charles Carlson, Director, IATC Region 1, and their spouses were special guests of honor. Virginia Wilder Cross presented a 75 year retrospective to the appreciative group.

Conventions

Our club has hosted three IATC conventions:

  • June 1940, Eastland Hotel, Portland. Carl Lane was the General Secretary of the International Torch Committee on Conventions which organized the event. Col. George Fogg was the general chairman.
  • June 1972, Sebasco Estates resort. Duke Blewett and Carl Lane were co-chairmen. Red Peabody was club president and host.
  • June 1993, Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland. Ron Palmquist, chairman, Carl Lane, honorary chairman.

The 2011 IATC Convention will be held in Hagerstown, Maryland, June 23–26, 2011.
